Amazon was an early backer that signed a 2019 deal to produce 100,000 electric delivery vans with Rivian, and it held a 20% stake before Rivian&#8217;s IPO (initial public offering) in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Other top shareholders include Oryx Global at 8.6%, Vanguard at 5.1%, and founder and CEO RJ Scaringe with about 1.1%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><br><strong>A $5.8 Billion JV with Milestone-Based Capital Release<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In November 2024, the two companies launched Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies, a joint venture (JV) focused on electrical architecture and software development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">VW has committed up to $5.8 billion in investment, structured to be released in stages as the JV hits development milestones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The JV started with an initial $1 billion investment, followed by another $1 billion in mid-2025 and an additional $1 billion in April 2026.
